Are you starting a new job and want to make a good impression?
Here’s what NOT to do in your first week…
- Being afraid to ask questions
Despite it feeling embarrassing, asking questions doesn’t make you look clueless if anything it shows, you’re engaged, interested and want to understand your role more in order to perform your best.
- Showing up late
Being late can happen, but you most definitely want to try your best to arrive early in your first couple of weeks. It shows you’re reliable and respectful of other people’s time
- Saying yes to everything
Be willing to help, but don’t take on more than you can manage. The last thing you want is to overload yourself with work and feel completely overwhelmed
- Being involved in work drama/gossip
The first couple of weeks is not the time to choose sides in work drama, you don’t have to be involved in gossip in order to make friends.
Your first couple of weeks at work is about listening and learning about how things work, you don’t have to have it all figured out straight away
