How To Find What You Really Enjoy Before Job Searching

July 24, 2026
On a Mel Robbins podcast, Carla Harris states that majority of jobseekers look for the wrong thing when choosing a career
Job applicants often prioritise finding positions based on the title or pay, But would you still be satisfied with that same job in the future?
What Carla Harris suggests to do:
You want to start by writing down a list on a blank piece of paper, of all the experience you’ve had – Jobs/work experience
Next to each of those experiences, write what you enjoyed most about it
On a separate piece of paper, you now want to write the kind of people you like to work with
Are these people…
Ambitious?
Motivating?
Collaborative?
Now with all that information, you want to create your dream job. Summarise your findings and describe the kind of job that suits you.
Our Suggestion –
-It may be difficult to search your summary of an ideal job into google.
-This can be a great opportunity to use AI to list job titles that match your description.
-This can reduce hours of searching for jobs that may suit your description and avoid the burn out
